Solar is Powering our Sustainability Commitments

It’s not easy being green – but our Padalam, Chennai production and warehousing facility continues to keep sustainability at the forefront of its operations. That approach has earned the facility its latest certification as a LEEDs GOLD building – and it continues to push the sustainable envelope today with design features that range from a solar panel array to a reflective white roof and adapting more energy efficient lighting across the facility.

The new solar panel array at our manufacturing unit in Padalam, Chennai – installed recently, despite the challenges of COVID-19 – is a triple win: It reduces greenhouse gas emissions, provides on-site power generation and keeps the building cool.

The panels are an eye-catching symbol of Evolv Clothing’s commitment to sustainability, and an important step toward meeting our goal of using maximum renewable electricity in our owned-and-operated facilities for reducing carbon emissions across our direct operations and global supply chain). They’ll provide about 30% of the annual energy requirements and help make the case for investing more in solar.

“What we really like is that it’s a statement – “We’re setting the standard and making a statement.” While installing the panels during the COVID-19 pandemic did bring some additional challenges, the teams took advantage of having fewer employees at the facility to fast-track the project and finish it before the unit runs back in full force.

The panels covered in an area of 7,265 sq. ft. on the facility’s roof are expected to harvest 98 kW of energy.

We hope the success of this project shows our peers and suppliers – if we can do it, you can too. We’re happy to partner and share our learnings, and we’re excited about the opportunity for ripple effects.
